Agropyron mayebaranum

Perennial. Raceme broadly lineaar to narrowly oblong, with single spikeles divergently or pectinaely arranged on a tough rhachis. Spikelets 3-10-flowered; glumes linear to narrowly ovate, indurated, 1-5-nerved, 1-keeled, to the base, tapering to an acuminate or shortly awned tip in which the nerves converg; lemmas keeled, glabrous or pilose, tip like that of gluems; palea ± spinulose on keels, sometimes bimucronae.

Species ± 15. Mediterranean, through the Middle East to Cina; also Australia and New Zealand.

Open steppes on dry sandy soids.
