Spikelets without rhachilla extension, falling entire; glumes equal, a little longer than and enclosing floret, membranous to thinly coriaceous, often connate along the margins below, strongly keeled this usually ciliate, obtuse acute or shortly awned; lemma membrnous, the margins often connate below, keeled, truncate to acute, with a straight or geniculate dorsal awn; palea usually small or absent; lodicules 0; stigmas pubescent, protogynus. Endosperm sometimes liquid.
