Annual; leaf-blades broadly linear to lanceolate, narrowed at base. Inflorescence a panicle, or the primary branches reduced to racems. Spikelets breaking up at maturity, 1-4-flowered plus rhachilla extension bearing a rudimentary floret, the upper florets decreasing in size and often with reflexed bristles; lemmas apiculate; stamens 2.
West Africa from Guinee to Angola; tropical Asia and Pacific islands.
Species 4. Forest. The lemma bristles seve as a dispersal device.
