Perennials; culms slender, lower part ascending and rooting at nodes, usually straggling. Sheath
shorter than internode, margins hairy; ligule coriaceous; blade lanceolate, flat. Inflorescence an open
panicle. Spikelets dorsally compressed, elliptic, acute, few or several in clusters on slender panicle
branches, falling off entirely from pedicel, pedicel very short; glumes nearly of equal length, 3-5-
veined, but much shorter than spikelet; lower floret sterile, lemma membranaceous, 7-9-veined, as long
as spikelet; upper floret fertile; upper lemma indurate, glabrous, acute at apex, margins narrowly membranaceous,
inrolled margins of same texture as upper palea.
Four species, Old World tropics, one species in Taiwan.
