Annuals; culms slender, basal nodes branching and rooting, decumbent, 15-50 cm high. Blades narrowly
ovate to linear-lanceolate, more or less covered with appressed short hairs, 4-12 cm long, 4-8 mm
wide, acute; ligule rounded, 0.5-1 mm long; sheath ciliate along margins and mouth of sheath. Panicle
5-15 cm long, branches and pedicels capillary. Spiklelets gibbous abaxially, laterally compressed, ca.
1.5 mm long, usually purplish brown; lower glume ovate, acute, 3-veined, ca. 1/2 as long as spikelet;
upper glume boat shaped, obtuse, 3-veined, ca. 2/3 as long as spikelet; lower lemma nearly as long as
spikelet, margins ciliated, 5-veined; upper lemma ca. 1.5 mm long, glabrous, gibbous, with a scar at
summit, shortly pedicellate; upper palea oblong, included in upper lemma.
