Culms tufted and slender. Blade filiform, 1.5-3 mm wide, strongly involute forming a pipe 0.3-1 mm across, hairy between the blades and sthe sheath; ligule 0.5 mm long, apex rounded. Panicle open, 5 cm long. Spikelets 1-flowered, 4 mm long; glumes subequal, lanceolate, acuminate; the lower 1-nerved, the upper 3-nerved, lateral 2 nerves slightly shorter. Floret 3.5 mm long, callus covered with short hairs, the hairsabout 1/3 the length of the floret; rachilla produced, 1 mm long, densely covered with long hairs; lemmas broadly lanceolate, apex acuminate, sinus, 5-nerved, the midrib prolonged into a slender twisted, scabrid awn; palea linear, keeled, with a sinus at the apex, 3 mm long; anther 1.6 mm long.
