Culm tufted, hard, about 0.5 mm across, 30 cm tall. Blade linear; about 10 cm long by 2.5 mm wide, densely covered with hairs, sericeous; sheath sericeous. Inflorescence of 2 one-sided racemes. Spikelets solitary, about 3.4 mm long, laterally compressed; rachis continuous, ciliate on margins; lower glume chartaceous, about 2.8 mm long, keeled and ciliated on the backside, 1-nerved; upper glume chartaceous, lanceolate, 1-nerved, densely covered with long hairs, about 3.2 mm long; lower lemma oblanceolate, hyaline, 1-nerved, upper margins ciliate; upper lemma hyaline, oblong, 1-nerved, about 2.5 mm long, awned from the minute sinus, the awn about 6 mm long, flexuous, upper palea hyaline, linear; truncate, margins ciliate, about 1 mm long.
