Culm more than 60 cm long, 2-7 mm across. Blade about 35 cm long by 13 mm wide, hirsute on the back; ligule tongue-shaped, characeous, hairy on the back, about 3.6 mm long. Inflorescence a large panicle, about 20 cm long, branches whorled. Spikelets paired, monomorphic, about 5 mm long. subcoriaceous, lanceolate, 7-nerved, sericeous on the back, shortly awned; rachis articulating; upper glume lanceolate, nearly as long as the lower, sericeous, aristate; lower lemma hyaline, 1-nerved, broadly lanceolate, margins fimbriate, about 3.5 mm long; upper lemma hyaline, lanceolate, as long as the lower lemma, 1-nerved, 2-toothed, with a flexuous awn of about 12 mm long; upper palea hyaline, lanceolate, nerveless, margins fimbriate, about 3.2 mm long; anther 2 mm long. Caryopsis cylindrical, about 2 mm long; embryo 1/2 the length of the caryopsis.

Distributed in Himalaya, India, China to Japan.

It is usually found on sunny hill-slopes.
