Polliniopsis somai Hayata, Icon. Pl. Formos. 7: 76. 1918; Honda, Monogr. 411. 1930.
Microstegium japonicium (Miquel) Koidz. subsp. somai (Hayata); Koyama, Grass. Jap. Neighb. Reg. 427. 1987.
Culm geniculate, about 1 mm across. Blade about 3 mm long by 6 mm wide; basal part broad, nearly glabrous; ligule minute, about 0.25 mm long, truncate; sheath margins sericeous. Racemes 3-4, subdigitately arranged, about 6 cm long. Spikelets paired, monomorphic, the upper long pedicellate, the lower shortly pediceled; rachis-joint slender, as long as the spikelet, about 4.5 mm long. Lower glume lanceolate, as long as the spikelet, subcoriaceous, 2-keeled, conspicuously 3-nerved, 2-toothed; upper glume chartaceous, lanceolate, 1-nerved, 2-keeled, margins membranous, inrolled and fimbriate, minutely 2-toothed, with a long awn arising from the sinus; lower lemma about 2 mm long, linear-lanceolate, membranous, 1-nerved, with an awn of about 10 cm long; upper lemma similar to the lower, slightly shorter, upper palea reduced; stamens 2, anther about 0.8 mm long.
