Perennials; culm branching and straggling, 1-2 m long. Blade lanceolate, cordate, margins hispidciliate,
8-12 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide; sheath glabrous, ciliate on margins; ligule a ring of hairs. Panicle
open, 10-20 cm long, axils of branches pilose, lower branches as much as 15 cm long. Spikelets elliptic,
ca. 2.3 mm long; lower glume lanceolate, 5-veined, nearly as long as spikelet; upper glume and lower
lemma equal in length, 5-veined; upper lemma ridged. smooth, shiny, coriaceous.
