Aquatic perennials; culm 50-100 cm tall, 4-10 mm thick, rooting at lower nodes, stout, spongy. Blade linear, 10-25 cm long, 5-8 mm wide; ligule a ring of hairs, 0.1-0.2 mm long. Panicle 15-35 cm long. Racemes 8-15, 1-3 cm long; rachis ca. 2 mm broad, margins undulate, tip free, acicular. Spikelets 2-3 mm long, imbricate, sessile, ovate-oblong; lower glume ca. 0.7 mm long, membranaceous, truncate; upper glume 1/3-1/2 as long as upper lemma, suborbicular, 3-5-veined, rounded or truncate; lower lemma ovate, acute, 3-5-veined; upper lemma ovate, 2 mm long, cuspidate-acuminate, granulate-rugose.

Tropical Asia. Taiwan, in wet places and ponds at southern part of the island.
