Culm tufted. Blade lanceolate, about 4 cm long by 6 mm wide, margins minutely ciliate; ligule membranous, about 0.5 mm long. Inflorescence a terminal raceme, about 13 cm long. Spikelets 1-flowered, about 2 mm long, excluding the awn; glumes chartaceous, lanceolate, hispid on back, l-nerved, prolonged into a long awn; the lower glume about 1.8 mm long, with an awn of about 10 mm long; the upper glume about 1.5 mm long, with an awn of about 5 mm long; lemma hyaline, lanceolate, rounded, 1-nerved, about 0.8 mm long. Caryopsis elliptical, about 1.5 mm long; embryo 1/3 the length of the caryopsis.

Widely distributed in India, Ceylon, Burma, Malaya to southeastern Asia generally.
It grows on sandy places in central and southern Taiwan.
