    Annuals; culm tufted, erect, 30-60 cm tall. Blade linear, pubescent all over, 2-4 mm wide; sheath pubescent; ligule a ring of dense hairs. Panicle open, 10-20 cm long, branches scabrous-hispid. Spikelets glabrous, acute, ca. 2.5 mm long; lower glume acute, 3-5-veined, ca. 1/2 as long as spikelet. Upper glume and lower lemma equal in length; upper glume 7-veined, veins green; lower lemma 5-veined, mucronate, enclosing an oblong, membranaceous lower palea; upper lemma ridged, smooth, shiny.

    India, Myanmar, Indochina, Malesia and southern China. Taiwan, in lowland dry fields and roadsides. NANTOU: Chingshuikou, Huang s. n.
