Culm tufted. Blade linear, needle-like at the apex, 1.5 mm wide, margins covered with tubercled hairs, especially on the sheath-mouth and margins; ligule chartaceous, upper part ciliate on back. Inflorescence a long contracted panicle, about 25 cm long. Spikelets 1-flowered, about 1.6 mm long; glumes chartaceous; the lower about 0.6 mm long, oblong, nerveless; the upper lanceolate, 1-nerved, 2 times the length of the lower; lemma chartaceous, lanceolate, boat-shaped, about 1.6 mm nerveless; palea chartaceous, upper margins membranous, elliptical, about 1.4 mm long, nerves inconspicuous. Fruit an utricle, about 0.8 mm long, rectangular in cross-section; embryo 1/2 the length of the utricle.

Very commonly distributed in India Burma, Ceylon and extending to Cchina, and Australia.
