Rhizome short, tufted. Culms up to 120 cm high; nodes usually farinose. Blade up to 50 cm long; ligule membranous, about 2.5 mm long; sheath remains persistent, curling up when dry. False panicle large, up to 40 cm long; racemes paired, 3-6-noded, subtended by involucre of about 1.8 cm long; pedicel and rachis-joint about 2 mm long, margins white hairy. Spikelets paired, the one pedicellate and the other sessile. Sessile spikelet oblong-lanceolate, 3-5 mm long; callus about 0.5 mm long, hairy; lower glume 2-keeled, keels narrowly winged, 2-4-nerved, flat; upper glume boat-shaped, margins membranous and ciliate, keel winged; lower lemma oblong-lanceolate, about 3/4 the length of the spikelet, 2-keeled, margins ciliate; upper lemma narrow, 2/3 the length of the spikelet, 2-cleft, with an awn about 8 mm long protruding from the sinus, epaleate.

Distributed in South China, the Philippines and Vietnam.
