Note: Phylloxylon was first mentioned as a species of Xylophylla in the Euphorbiaceae by Jussieu (1789). The genus Phylloxylon was described by Baillon (1861) from the material collected by Boivin. Baker (1883) described specimens of the genus as Exocarpus xylophylloides in the Santalaceae. But later, on receiving fertile material, created the genus Neobaronia in the Leguminosae (Baker 1884) in the tribe Dalbergieae. Peltier (1967) placed Phylloxylon in the Indigofereae.
