Note: We provisionally include all Malagasy material of the genus in this species, following Humbert (1960). Gilbert and Jeffrey (1988) recognized the closely related Malagasy endemic .E. parviflora, but this seems unjustified, they also recognized two subsp. within E. conyzoides but these too seem hardly distinct. However further investigation of the species complex throughout its global range is needed.
