Important sites outside protected areas: Ankaratra, Ibity, Itremo/Ambatofinandrahana

Note: Two subspecies are recognised: subsp. aureus and subsp. littoralis. Verdcourt (1970) considered A. grandiflorus to be a valid species and A. madagascariensis var dumensis to be synonyms of A. diversifoliatus.
