Xyris humilis Kunth
    Enum. Pl. 4: 15 (1843).

Bioclimate: Humid, Dry

Vegetation Formation: Freshwater Wetland, Saline Wetland, Inselberg/Rock Face, Coastal Dunes

Elevation (m): 0-499, 1000-1499

Province: Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Mahajanga, Toamasina, Toliara

Note: This variable species has been placed in synonymy with X. anceps, which occurs in Madagascar and in southern and eastern Africa, however we believe that X. humilis should be maintained. The variation seems to show some correlation with distribution, and more rubust specimens are difficult to distinguish from depauperate plants of X. anceps, and this requires further investigation. The name X. humilis var. minima has been used for some African material, but this is now referred to X. anceps (Lock, 1999).
