Chionanthus obtusifolius (Lam.) Stearn
    J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 80: 203 (1980).

  • Linociera obtusifolia (Lam.) H. Perrier
  • Linociera obtusifolia var. minoriflora H. Perrier
  • Olea obtusifolia Lam.

    Distribution: Endemic to Madagascar

    Bioclimate: Humid

    Vegetation Formation: Forest

    Elevation (m): 0-499, 500-999

    Province: Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Toamasina, Toliara

    Protected Areas : Masoala

Important sites outside protected areas: Ile Ste Marie

Note: Perrier de la B√Ęthie recognised 3 vars. in this species, these were not validly published: 'var. minutiflora' does not seem distinguishable from the typical plant, but 'var. thouarsii' is poor material and is probably not conspecific, it is not certain that the specimens concerned are in fact Chionanthus, they could be Noronhia. Generally a plant of littoral forests, but a few specimens occur inland at mid elevation. Material from the Mandrare basin with smaller leaves and larger fruit, may represent a separate sp.
