Bulbs 4–7 cm, tunic dark brown, membranous. Leaves 1–2 dm × 3–9 mm, margins undulate. Panicles 3–9 dm, branches usually ascending, erect. Flowers diurnal, closing after 1 day, 2 or more per axil; tepals spreading from above base, white or pinkish, with darker midvein, subrotate, 7–8 mm; stamens 3–4 mm, shorter than tepals; anthers yellow, 1.5–2 mm; pollen yellow; style 7–9 mm, longer than tepals; pedicels typically 2 or more in axil of each bract, slender, 2–8 mm, usually shorter than perianth. Capsules 3–4 mm. 2n = 60.

Flowering May--Aug. Dry open areas of coastal sage scrub; 0--800 m; Calif.; Mexico (Baja California).
