Leaf blades 3.2–7 mm wide at widest. Perigynia ovate-lanceolate or diamond-shaped, (3.3–)3.6–5.4 × 1.1–1.5 mm, 3–5 times as long as wide, margin flat, including wing 0.1–0.3 mm wide.

Fruiting early–mid summer. Open floodplain forests, moist to wet grasslands, ditches, stream banks, wet thickets; 20–600 m; N.B., N.S., Ont., Que.; Conn., Del., D.C., Fla., Ga., Ill., Ind., Iowa, Kans., Ky., Maine, Md., Mass., Mich., Minn., Mo., Nebr., N.H., N.J., N.Y., N.C., Ohio, Pa., R.I., S.C., Tenn., Vt., Va., W.Va., Wis.
