Leaf blade: margins with acute teeth, apex acute. Leaflike bracts present throughout, similar to cauline leaves, 0.2-1 × 0.1-0.5 cm. Vertical seeds 0.9-1.1 mm diam.
Fruiting late summer-fall. Waste places, especially ± brackish soils; 200-2100 m; Alta., B.C., Man., N.W.T., Ont., Que., Sask., Yukon; Alaska, Ariz., Calif., Colo., Idaho, Iowa, Kans., Minn., Mo., Mont., Nebr., Nev., N.Mex., N.Dak., Oreg., S.Dak., Utah, Wash., Wyo.
