Basal leaf blades linear to linear-oblanceolate, (1.8-)3.5-9.7 × (0.2-)0.3-0.6(-0.9) cm, glabrous. Cauline leaf blades oblong-elliptic to oblong, 1-1.7(-2) × (0.1-)0.2-0.5(-0.8) cm, glabrous throughout or with scattered, marginal hairs near base.

Flowering summer-fall. Rich woods, prairies; 0-400 m; Ark., Okla., Tex.

Gossypianthus lanuginosus var. tenuiflorus has been reported also from Louisiana, but I have seen no supporting specimens.
