Plants 2-4 dm. Aerial flowering stems slender, not fistulose, 1-3 dm, usually glabrous rarely floccose. Leaf blades lanceolate, 2-7 × (0.7-)1-2(-2.5) cm. Involucres glabrous. Flowers 5-6 mm; perianth bright yellow or ochroleucous.
Flowering May-Jul. Sandy to gravelly slopes, mixed grassland and sagebrush communities, montane conifer woodlands; 250-1900(-2500) m; Wash.
Variety lancifolium is local and usually uncommon in the mountains of Chelan, Kittitas, Okanogan, and Yakima counties in eastern Washington.
