Stems decumbent-ascending, 10–20 cm, hirsutulous (hairs spreading-deflexed) in proximal 1 / 2 , usually sparsely strigose or glabrous distally. Leaves: proximal and mid margins with stiff, spreading cilia, faces hispid. Involucres 5–6.5 mm.
Flowering Jun–Aug. Sandy sites, commonly in pine or pine-oak woodlands; 1100–2000 m; Calif.
