6a. Pityopsis aspera (A. Gray) Small var. aspera

Stems sericeous proximally, glabrous or glabrate distally, stipitate-glandular throughout. Leaves: proximal cauline faces sericeous; mid to distal margins stipitate-glandular, faces usually glabrate. 2n = 18.

Flowering Aug–Oct (sometimes spring). Open, sandy soils; 20–60 m; Fla., Ga.

Variety aspera grows in a limited area of northern Florida and extreme southern Gerogia.
