Heads 40–90+. Phyllaries ± 8, 4–6 mm. Ray florets ± 5; corolla laminae 5–7 mm. Disc florets 10–20.
Flowering summer. Open stream banks and meadows in coniferous woodlands and sagebrush-conifer associations; 1000–3000 m; Calif., Idaho, Mont., Nev., Oreg., Utah, Wash., Wyo.
Variety serra occurs from the Sierra Nevada of California northward and eastward to Montana, northern Wyoming, and the Uinta and Wasatch mountains of Utah.
