Rosettes loose, internodes visible. Leaf blades (5-)8-17 mm. Flowering shoots 2-8 cm. Flowers: sepals 3 mm, apex acute; petals white, greenish or creamy white, or pale orangish, 6-9 × 2.4-3.8 mm; anthers 1.2-1.5 mm. 2n = 60.
Flowering late spring-early summer. Outcrops; 400-2300 m; Calif., Oreg.
Variety retusum occurs on the North Coast Ranges and the Siskiyou and Klamath mountains.
