Leaf blades ovate or elliptic, margins denticulate or, rarely, entire. Proximal inflorescence bracts longer than subtended pedicels. Flowers: calyx lobes (2.8-)3-5.5(-5.8) mm, apices acuminate; anthers (2.2-)2.7-3.5(-3.9) mm.
Flowering Apr-Jun. Moist, coniferous forests, swampy woods, riparian thickets, dry and open hillsides; 100-2000 m; Alta., B.C.; Alaska, Calif., Idaho, Mont., Oreg., Wash.
