Plants 0.5–3 dm. Stems glabrous or sparsely hairy. Leaves ternate; petiole hairy; central leaflets ovate to rhombic, to 6 cm (lateral leaflets shorter), base rounded to attenuate, not cuneate, margins dentate to serrate (sometimes doubly), apex usually acute. Inflorescences: flowers 1–3. Pedicels eglandular. Flowers: sepals deltate, hairy, eglandular or glandular; petals pink, obovate, 8–20 mm, apex entire or emarginate. 2n = 21.
Flowering Jun–Aug. Subalpine meadows, bogs, thickets, tundra, peaty soil; 0–2000 m; Alta., B.C., N.W.T., Yukon; Alaska, Wash.; Eurasia.
