Nothovariety sicca is scattered throughout southern Missouri. The small size of plant and leaves, with a certain amount of villosity, suggests Crataegus margarettae as one parent; the thorns, flowers, pomes, and leaf shape suggest C. pruinosa var. pruinosa for the other.
