Wright’s gentian

Herbs annual, 25–50(–70) cm. Stems erect, simple or branched throughout. Leaves: basal often withered by flowering, blades ovate to elliptic or spatulate, 10–20 × 6–12 mm; cauline blades ovate to lanceolate, 20–50 × 8–17 mm. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, dichasial or ± umbelloid cymes; pedicels 3–5(–15) mm. Flowers (4- or)5-merous; calyx (6–)8–15 mm, dividing into lobes distinctly above base, narrowly elliptic to linear-oblong, subequal, (5–)6–10 mm; corolla white or pale yellow (often drying deeper yellow), rarely with short violet-blue streaks distally, narrowly funnelform, (15–)20–30 mm, lobes spreading, ovate, (5–)7–10 mm, apex obtuse to acute, with a fringe of trichomes near base of each lobe; ovary sessile.

Flowering late summer–fall. Wet meadows; 2100–2400 m; N.Mex.; Mexico (Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Sonora).

Gentianella wrightii may no longer occur in the flora area, from which it is known only from nineteenth-century collections by E. L. Greene in one locality in Grant County, New Mexico.
