Herbs 2–10 cm. Cauline leaf blades elliptic-ovate to ovate. Inflorescences subcapitate cymes; pedicels 0–5 mm. Flowers: central and lateral similar in size; corolla pale violet to rose-violet to white, 7–13 mm, lobe apices acuminate but neither mucronate nor bristle-tipped.
Flowering late summer. Mountain meadows, rocky or gravelly soils; of conservation concern; 100–500 m; Alaska.
Subspecies aleutica is endemic to the Aleutian Islands and a few localities near the coast of mainland Alaska.
