Flowers: sepal apices usually obtuse, rarely acuminate; style branches 2–3 mm, equal to sub­equal. 2n = 28.

Flowering May–Aug. Coastal plain woods, sandy soils; of conservation concern; 0–20 m; Ala., Ga., Miss., N.J., N.C., S.C.
