Dendrochilum Blume

穗花一葉蘭屬

Epiphytic herbs. Pseudobulbs tufted or well spaced on rhizome, elongate-ovoid, with single leaf at apex. Leaves, narrow, coriaceous, petiolate, articulated. Inflorescences terminal, peduncle arising from base of old pseudobulb, often producing new leaf before growth of new pseudobulb, slender, erect or flexuous. Flowers many, distichous; sepals and petals subequal; lip subsessile, jointed with base of column, oblong or lyrate, often 3-lobed, lateral lobes smaller than midlobe; column thin, curved, hooded at apex, with narrow lateral arms and terminal wing around anther; anther incumbent, 2-celled; pollinia 4, ovoid, waxy, connected by short caudicles, viscidium small or obscure; stigma entire, often emergent.

About 100 species, from Myanmar, Sumatra and Papua New Guinea to the Philippines, particularly abundant in Borneo, Sumatra and the Philippines. One species in Taiwan.
