Annual herbs. Leaves opposite, triple-nerved. Heads small, several-flowered, radiate. Ray florets 4 or 5, white or reddish, pistillate. Involucre of 4 or 5 ovate thin scales. Receptacle conical, with narrow paleae. Pappus of small, oblong, fimbriate paleaceous scales, sometimes wanting.
Fourteen species native from the southern United States to Argentina, mainly tropical America; two cosmopolitan weeds in Taiwan.
