Distribution and habitat. Endemic to Taiwan, at sunny places on grasslands or exposed rocky places on high mountains. Usually found in the northern and central parts of the Central Mountain Range from 2,500 to 3,900 m in elevation. Flowering and fruiting Jun-Dec.

Notes. Gentiana arisanensis Hayata was treated as the synonymy of G. aristata Maxim. by Ying (1989), according to his examination of specimens and reading of original description of both species. However, the treatment seems to be inappropriate, because the latter is annual herbs and with obvious radical leaves.
