According to Hayata (1919), this species is similar to A. latifolia subsp. henryi, differing by the hairy leaves with cordate base and unwinged petioles. We have not seen the type, which was collected from Nengkaoshan (Hualien), 3,000 m, in 1908. It may represent a variant of the plastic A. latifolia subsp. henryi. No specimens are available for study.
