    Terrestrial herbs. Rhizomes creeping, up to 1 m long, apex asceuding, leafy upward; erect stem often longer than 50 cm, with 5-7 leaves. Leaves rhombic-elliptic or obovate, 15-20 cm long, 5-10 cm wide, acute at apex, cuneate at base; petioles 5-10 cm long, sheathing at base. Peduncle glandular-hairy, ca. 30 cm tall, with 5-7 bract-like sheaths; rachis ca. 30 cm long, with 50-70 flowers; floral bracts hairy. Flowers racemose, distinctly pedicelled; ovary glandular hairy; sepals brownish-green, ovate-lan-ceolate, 6-8 mm long, 3-veined, glandular-hairy outside; petals falcate, 7-8 mm long, 1-veined, appressed to dorsal sepal forming a hood when young, soon free from each other; lip rhombic-orbicular, 5-veined, concave, glandular hairy within, apex suddenly constricted into a revolute, ligulate tail; column slender, 6 mm long, gradually dilated towards apex, straight when young, arched in age; anther ovate, 2 mm long, flat, shorter than rostellum; pollinia often exerted beyond clinandrium and hanging on tip of rostellum; stigma orbicular; rostellum elongate, flat, slightly inflexed; viscidium rounded, small.
