    Habit as in typical variety. Leaves entire. Flowers dull green or lime green; sepals oblong, 2.2-2.8 cm long, 6-8 mm wide, acute; petals often with purplish red midrib, obovate-oblong, 1.8-2.4 cm long, 78 mm wide, acute; lip ovate, 1.8-2 cm long, 8-10 mm wide, 3-lobed.

    Southern Japan and the Ryukyus. Taiwan, habitats similar to typical variety.

    Variety aspidistrifolium differs from the typical variety in its entire leaves and dull green flowers. The sepals are thicker, fleshier, and shorter and broader than in the typical phase. The flowers appear from October to December. Cymbidium bambusifolium is a rare, smaller form of var. aspidistrifolium with fewer leaves and flowers. Its flowering time is similar.
