3100-5600 m; Gilgit, Karakoram, Himalaya (Kashmir to Nepal), S.W. Tibet. It is possible that this taxon is not a form of the true A. muscoidea nor of the Nepal plant given this name. Its robust habit with very compact rosettes, very variable scape lengths and deep pin.
