Note: Formerly regarded as an endemic family, recent research suggests that the African genera: Calyptrotheca (2 spp.) Ceraria (5 spp.) and Portulacaria (3 spp.) which were formerly placed in the Portulacaceae should be placed with the 4 Malagasy endemic genera (Appelquist & Wallace 2000, 2003).
