Note: The cultivated vanilla, V. planifolia Andrews, a native of Mexico, is cultivated in the north-east for its seed-pods. Vanilla phalaenopsis Rchb.f. ex Van Houtte, listed by Stein from Madagascar, the type is from the Seychelles, but this may be conspecific with, and an earlier name for V. madagascariensis.
