Note: The material from Madagascar closely resembles some material from S, E and NE Africa (including the type) in having short pedicels and few carpels. Plants separated as P. goudotii and P. dodecandra var. brevipedicellata have particularly short pedicels, but are not worth maintaining. Material from various parts of Africa (mainly W and C) with longer pedicels and more carpels may represent a different species.
