Note: Humbert identified material as Spilanthes acmella (var. acmella), a synonym of a widespread Asian species correctly known as Acmella paniculata (Wall. ex DC.) R.K. Jansen. De Candolle suggested that his var. madagascariensis may be a distinct species - we agree this is possible, but variation in Africa and Madagascar is complex and would need careful examination to resolve.
