Note: This species was believed extinct in the wild, but maintained in cultivation in many villages and towns in W and SW Madagascar (Olson & Razafimandibison, 2000[PDF]), however recent information (Castillon & Castillon, 2007) suggests that a least one natural population still exists near Toliara.
