Note: Material included here from mid-elevation primarily from the central plateau forms a coherent entity that corresponds closely with the African material of this species. It includes specimens formerly referred to the Malagasy X. hildebrandtii and X. madagascariensis, but excludes X. baronii and various other misplaced specimens. Malagasy material referred to X. batokana and X. umbilonis by Perrier de la Bâthie is also referred here.
