Astilbe chinensis (Maxim.) Franch. et Savat.
Rhizomatous perennial 100 cm. Leaves 2 or 3 ternately compound, biserrate, glossy above, dull below, with reddish pubescence on both sides. Basal leaves long, petiolate, stem leaves shortly so. Flowers lilac-pink in slender panicles. V - mid spring to mid autumn. (in St. Petersburg April to September). Fl - June-July. Fr - August-September. P - by division or seed. Grows well in partially shaded sites.
Far East (southern regions), northeastern China and Mongolia. Open broad-leaved forests, open places.
