Merendera sobolifera C. A. Mey.

Tiny plant 5-10 cm. Bulb cylindrical, 7-9 cm long with dark coriaceous scales. Leaves 2-3, linear, 5-8 cm x 1-2 cm broad during flowering period, later elongated. Flowers pink, 1-3, 2-3 cm long, on short peduncles. V - early to late spring, in St. Petersburg March (April) to end May. Fl - March-April. Fr - May. P - by seed and by stolons (daughter bulbs). Prefers well-drained soil and sunny sites. Plant in rock gardens in combination with late-flowering plants. Z 4 (3).

Caucasus, Central Asia, Iran, Anatolia and the Balkan Peninsula. On rocky slopes, in subalpine meadows.
